This week’s theme for Photo Hunt is SPACE. Although I thought of the outer space when I first read the theme, I decided to be a little bit more creative and Maui related. I worked for a developer here on Maui and one of the main concerns right now of many is the preservation of the open spaces on Maui. We do not want Maui to be another Honolulu – we like it to stay “Maui” if you know what I mean. But at the same time, working for a responsibile developer whose mission is to provide affordable housing to the working families on Maui, I know that simply saying we should preserve all the open spaces won’t work. Families grow, communities grow. I guess the secret is in proper planning. Anyway, the above is my photo hunt entry

I totatly agree with you about preserving Maui’s open spaces. Our friends from Canada were very impressed that Maui still has so much undeveloped land. We can also understand the locals having strong feelings against the big development coming up in Makena. It always seems that the rich can take anything they want. Let’s hope as you say that Maui will always have responsible planners, as it grows.

Oh wow this is a lovely lovely shot. I hope that spaces like these will be preserved. Great choice for The Hunt.

This is a very evocative image with the tree by itself on the expanse of beach.
As to where and how to park our population, it is a huge and growing problem. I don’t envy you the struggle with it.

Gorgeous scene!
I don’t want Maui to become another Honolulu either. A lovely photo of the quiet, peaceful Maui that I love. Kudos for taking a moment to be creative with the topic, too. I would have jumped straight to one of my starry sky photos.

I love this shot. It reminds me of a spot near my grandma’s place. It evokes a lot of memories.
